WEDDING: CLAUDIA AND TRAVIS

LAST SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21 2009, CLAUDIA AND TRAVIS TIED THE KNOT AT SAN FERNANDO CATHEDRAL with their reception following at Southwest School of Art and Craft. I first met Claudia and Travis back in August 2008, so I know the planning process has been rather drawn out for them as they secured the locations they really wanted. Both are a delightful couple and I wish them all the happiness. Right now, they’re both enjoying their honeymoon on a Holland America cruise ship somewhere in the Caribbean-I’m so envious.

Below are a few of my favorites from their one special day.

For anyone interested, I used a Nikon D3, D700, a Nikon 14-24 f2.8, 35mm f2 and 50mm f1.4 lens. I’m selling my 24-70 f2.8 lens this week and purchasing my last lens for a while, a 85mm f1,4, completing my transition to prime lenses. As much as I love my Nikon zoom, I just don’t use it anymore.

Baby Emma~ New Thomas Addition

Just a quick note to mention Emma was born 5:02am this morning. Mom and baby are doing well. Dad (hey, that’s me) is the happiest man on the planet.

A crazy night. It’s true what folks say when you have a second one-the whole labor happens twice as fast. You should of seen me running back down to the parking lot at 3 in the morning to get my camera. She’s absolutely gorgeous and pictures will follow soon.

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes.

November 18, 2009 - 11:33 am Jennifer Paniagua - Congratulations!!!!!! I am so happy to hear that you and your family are doing well. We can't wait to see the new pictures. God Bless Johnny and Jennifer Paniagua

ALBUM: DINA & OSCAR

Occasionally, it’s great to share with you some of my favorite couples wedding albums. so, here’s Dina and Oscar’s final edit (I think) for their album just about to be published. I show these slideshows as they add another dimension to the way I shoot and well, they’re just fun to put together.

Down To The Wire

Less than seven days to go (maybe) and our second little one will arrive. I know we’re going with the first name ‘Emma’ and the second name maybe, 90% certain, ‘Victoria’. Anyway, whatever happens, I’ll be posting updates here as we get closer. So very excited and thanks to everyone who has wished us good luck!

~Philip

Boxing Series ~ Part 1

Last Saturday, I was fortunate to photograph my friend and neighbor, Charles Dattrell Matthews, or “D’ as he likes to be called, warm up and train. This is the start of a series of images following ‘D’ as he trains and improves his stamina for up and coming Golden Gloves-the amateur boxing competitions.

The first day I started shooting had me arriving at Mark’s house, a friend of D’s. After meeting his very excited Golden Retrievers, Mark, a very amiable guy showed me the back yard boxing ring. Once the ring was cleared of debris from all the recent wet weather, D started warming up for the training bouts that would follow. The following are a few of my favorites from the very quick one minute rounds as Philip, a local city councillor, hoping to compete in a local fund raiser, trained under Lou, a 20 year boxing veteran trainer. Detrell; Mark, Bob; an ex sheriff turned actor all took turns to train with Phillip. I was just exhausted photographing these guys go at it.

D starts the day sweeping up the gym. The recent rains had soaked the area with dirt and grime.

An old news clipping from August 2006 shows Detrrill knocking down his opponent in the first round
