This click caught my attention as I was going through Sara and Cody’s wedding day and you can see the original post here. However, it wasn’t posted at the time and since then I’ve grown very fond of it. Evokes a real feeling of romance and a fleeting kiss. One of my favorites from last month. Like Alex and Max’s wedding, I’m very fortunate to do what I do for a living. I get to shoot all types of cultural and destination weddings and this was no exception. Alex and Max’s wedding or ‘Malex’ as we now fondly call them was a Jewish ceremony at the Onmi Riverway in Houston on the last Saturday of March 2013.
We start as guests gathered at The Omni and the rehearsal dinner at the historical Sam Houston Hotel’s Veranada room (that’s the first picture below). I first met Alex and Max over Skype almost a year ago and after that knew I wanted to shoot their special day. Last summer, I was fortunate to fly into Newark and photographer their engagement session, shot over two days around Brooklyn and New York City. Part one is here and part two here. The party went late into the early hours and was, well, crazy crazy crazy. If you were there, then you know what I mean! My other English partner in crime, aka, second photographer was Adam Swift who flew in from La La Land, so thanks to him for coming along for the ride. We have worked together many times before and are available as a team for any destination wedding around the world.
Alex and Max are an amazing couple to work with and I thoroughly enjoyed working with them including Alex’s mom, Susan throughout the process. They both complement each others personalities perfectly and I’m looking forward to seeing their story evolve in the future.

Ms. Schneider recently shared the link to the photos from Alex & Max’s wedding. We were the provider of the Photofetti that was tossed in the last photo. All the photos are fabulous, it is a beautiful wedding with beautiful photos. We really appreciate the photo with the Photofetti being tossed it is a perfect photo, we don’t often get to see photos from the events that our product is used, so this is a special treat for us. I have asked Ms. Schneider for a copy of the photo to keep in our files and also possibly for future promotional use, which of course we would give you full credit for the Photography. Thank you so much for sharing your photographic talent, It is obvious that you are an excellent photographer.

A favorite from March 2013.
I love this for numerous reasons. Primarily, I shoot to tell the story of the day and part of this is to find details without setting up a shot. This includes, no directing or promoting by the photographer. My philosophy (yes, quite shocking for folks who know me but I do have one) is I don’t believe a picture can be improved by interfering, as then the image is not a moment but a moment that the photographer has controlled.
It is a challenge for me to find those moments with a human element. Why? For one. it’s more interesting as it links the bride, groom or whoever to the event in an emotional way (thanks to Fer Juaristi who taught me this) and two, to bring composition, structure and geometry to those shots. If I spend enormous amounts of energy setting up a shot, then I will miss moments happening around me and then I feel like I’m not doing service to my couple, who’ve spent enormous sums of money for me to capture what they see in my portfolio.
Back to the shot below. Hands can be a detail shot and so can the ring. Hands alone tell a powerful story and in this case I captured these as Lauren was finishing up getting dressed with her lovely mom behind her but out of shot. For those who want to know the techie stuff, it was captured on a D4 with a simple 35mm f1.4 Nikon lens in low light with some tungsten coming from far right of the bride. For me it takes on its own endearing qualities and timelessness. You can see the rest of my favorites from Lauren and Alex’s wedding here (this wasn’t included but I found this as I was culling and editing yesterday) and for now, remain my favorite shot of 2013.

This is a really nice picture
A few of my favorite clicks from Sara and Cody’s wedding last Saturday at the Witte Museum in San Antonio. I’m so fortunate to meet Sara and Cody’s lovely family and friends and the wedding turned out to be an amazing celebration. All shot with a Nikon D3, D4 and Leica M9. Thanks to Diana Boucher - wedding planner for this super kind referral.
Oh, you can see Sara and Cody’s engagement session here. We start with one of my favorite images of the year as the Sara, our bride on the right of the picture, flower girl and train bearers looked up and spotted a owl high up in the canopy. The 4th shot below with the squirrel also kinda cracks me up. There’s allot of tenderness, emotion and the human spirit in these shots and that really sums up the wedding. This is typical of my humor! Taken last Friday at Sara and Cody’s wedding rehearsal with my Leica M9. What did they see? Well, it was a snow owl up in the canopy (I think) and according to Michelle Moon – Director of Special Events at Witte Museum, is a regular resident. Hope you like it.
Lauren and Alex’s wedding took place at Lost Missions, just a few miles from my home and the first time I’ve shot there. Check this place out if you’ve just got engaged. Put it this way. If this venue was open seven years ago I’m sure Marcie and I would’ve married here.
Love this time of the year. It’s not too hot or humid for a English bloke like myself. Not only that, but the sun lower in the sky and the amazing warm climate- even in March is hard to beat making for great photographs. Oh, except the allergies that I’ve inherited since moving to Texas seven years ago. Apparently that’s to be expected.
This wedding is a lovely referral from Jo Ann Woodward, top wedding planner from Houston and owner of Schwartz and Woodward. The other half of this dynamic duo is John, her husband who always makes me laugh. I’ve had the pleasure of working with both of them a couple of times over the last few years and everything about her style of planning is nothing short of stellar and professional.
I very much enjoyed photographing Alex and Lauren. Some of the nicest folks you could meet gathered together here for the reception and celebrate the night away.

Tricia and Erics wedding was a very extravagant affair in the heart of San Antonio. There was amazing decor, details, wonderful people and I made some new friends. We start the story with the rehearsal dinner the night prior at The Menger. The wedding and reception was at the Southwest Art and Craft School. I love the light during the winter months and it’s a very different type of quality down here in the deep south. Thanks to the wonderfully talented Kurtis Kronk, Christian Margain and Betsy Herndon who joined me for the ride last Saturday. Are you ready?
